Office of Study Abroad and Outreach Scholarships
Three scholarships are available through the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach:
Rocky Studies Abroad ScholarshipÌý Multiple $500 scholarships are awarded to WIU students participating in various credit-bearing Study Abroad Programs including faculty-led Study Abroad Courses, semester-long Study Abroad Programs, international internships, etc.Ìý These scholarships are available each term (Fall/Spring/Summer).
James F and Syndy M Conger Study Abroad AwardÌý One $500 scholarship is awarded to a WIU student participating in a full-time Study Abroad Program (must be enrolled full-time in coursework at the host institution).Ìý This scholarship is available each term (Fall/Spring/Summer).
Beatrice Wehrly Study Abroad ScholarshipÌý One $1,500 scholarship is awarded to a WIU student participating in a full-time Study Abroad Program (must be enrolled full-time in courseswork at the host institution).Ìý This scholarship is available Fall and Spring only.

Scholarship criteria/requirements
Rocky Studies Abroad Scholarship
Criteria
- Degree-seeking WIU student currently enrolled in classes
- Participation in a Study Abroad program or credit-bearing international experience approved by the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach
- Minimum 2.5 overall GPA

Meets study abroad eligibility requirements for selected program
Requirements
- One-page essay on "Why Study Abroad?"
- One-page essay on "Why this program?"
- Financial Aid Award Letter

James F and Syndy M Conger Study Abroad Award
Criteria
- Full-time WIU student in good judicial status
- Participation in a full-time Study Abroad program (minimum 12 credits during Fall/Spring semester or minimum 6 credits during Summer term) approved by the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach
- Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
- Completed at least one semester at WIU

Beatrice Wehrly Study Abroad Scholarship
Criteria
- Full-time WIU student in good judicial status
- Participation in a full-time semester long Study Abroad program (minimum 12 credits during Fall/Spring semester) approved by the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach
- Minimum 3.0 overall GPA
- The recipient must be planning to enter a "helping profession": Education, Social Work, Nursing, Speech Pathology, Law Enforcement, etc.

Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in the College of Education and Human Services.Ìý Applicants in other disciplines may be considered on an individual basis
Requirements
- One-page essay on "Why Study Abroad?"
- Two recommendation letters: One from a WIU faculty member, the other from another WIU staff member, work supervisor, leader of your volunteer organization, etc.

Spring 2024 Study Abroad scholarships now open!
Scholarship applications for Spring 2024 study abroad programs are now open. More information about the scholarships and the application form can be found on our website. The application deadline is midnight, Wednesday, November 1, 2023. If you have any questions about the scholarships, please contact Kim McDaniel, Study Abroad Advisor, at kd-mcdaniel@wiu.edu.
